Luke Dowling spearheaded the Rockingham Rams to a 47-point win over Mandurah in the opening round of the Peel Football League on Saturday.
The Rams claimed a clean sweep over the Mustangs, with the reserves, colts and women’s teams also starting 2019 off with a win.
Dowling booted seven majors as the Rams ran out 22.10 (142) to 14.11 (95) winners over the Mustangs in a contest that saw both teams bolt out of the blocks.
The Mustangs led 7.4 (46) to 7.0 (42) after a whirlwind opening quarter and despite their opening blitz only added another seven goals in the following three quarters, as the Rams piled on seven more in the second quarter to lead by 22 points at half-time.
The Rams added five more majors in the third term to the Mustangs’ one to put the game out of reach, with both teams kicking three goals each in the final quarter.
Damon Cramer (3) and Fraser Millar (2) were the Rams other multiple goal kickers, while Alexander McLeod, Stuart Puls and Hamish Free each nabbed three for the Mustangs.
Trent Goodrick and Ashley Humphreys were among the best as the Rams reserves ran out 10.7 (67) to 8.5 (53) winners, Liam Pember kicked two goals as the colts recorded a 9.14 (68) to 4.7 (31) victory, and Dakota Dal Bello nabbed three as the women smashed the Mustangs 7.10 (52) to 1.0 (6).
Former Carlton forward Blaine Johnson kicked four goals in the Baldivis Brumbies big 16.14 (110) to 5.9 (39) win over South Mandurah, with Aden Field, Wesley Steele, Joshua Branchi and Tate Ralph among the best aground.
The Rams face South Mandurah at South Mandurah Oval on Saturday, while Baldivis travels to Pinjarra to face the reigning premiers at Sir Ross McLarty Oval.
