Police are hunting for a man who broke into a Rockingham deli in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police would like to speak to a man who was filmed climbing out of a hole smashed through the glass window of Careeba Park Newsagency and Convenience Store on Council Avenue.

The man looks at the person filming him before climbing through the hole and running down the pathway.

City of Rockingham councillor Matt Whitfield posted the video on his Facebook page, saying it was filmed by one of the owners of the store.

He said the man who broke into the store got away with just a few packets of cigarettes but managed to cut himself in the process, leaving blood behind.

“It was so brazen,” he said.

Cr Whitfield said it was not a regular occurrence in the area, but it showed the lengths people would go to in committing petty crime.

A police spokeswoman said the man in the vision was someone “police would like to speak with to assist them with their inquiry”.

She said the offence took place at 1am on Sunday and police were investigating.
