Rockingham’s Christians Ready Equipped and Willing has received 750 more ways to help the local community after Telstra Store Warnbro donated much-needed funding to the charity.
Local community groups were able to nominate to be one of three groups to receive funding, with customers able to vote for The CREW, Fibro & Us or Port Kennedy RSL as part of the store’s Connected Community Program.
The amount awarded was determined by the number of votes received in store, with The CREW receiving the most votes and collecting a $750 donation to go towards the purchase of food for homeless people and families in need.
The CREW supports those struggling with homelessness and runs a free lunch one day a week, two free barbecues a week and provides food hampers, tea and coffee, and support services allowing people to meet their basic needs.
Store owner Craig Kimber said he was thrilled to give back to the community.
“We are proud to support three diverse but equally deserving organisations. It was great to see many locals coming in store to support these causes,” he said.
Port Kennedy RSL hopes to use its donation to replace a fence that is frequently vandalised and damaged and requires regular repairs, while Fibro & Us will use its $100 donation to provide in-person support and a social group for those with fibromyalgia, a condition that causes widespread and chronic muscular pain.
